Preparations for upcoming flight test campaigns in natural icing conditions in North America and Europe are in their final phase. The remaining activities include hardware and software integration and testing as well as preparations for meteorological support.

The SENS4ICE partners Safran, The French Aerospace Lab (ONERA) and German Aerospace Center (DLR) have recently performed software interface tests between the Hybird Ice Detection System (HIDS) and two Direct Ice Detection Systems (DIDS) which will be flight-tested on the ATR 42 platform operated by SAFIRE. The interface tests of AMPERA (Atmospheric Measurement of Potential and ElectRic field on Aircraft) developed by ONERA, and LILD (Local Ice Layer Detector) developed by DLR, were performed in December 2022 at the facilities of Safran Aerosystems in Plaisir, France. The project partners have successfully tuned the interfaces between the direct ice detectors and HIDS.
