SENS4ICE collaborating with EU project ICE GENESIS
For the 2nd public workshop of the EU-funded project ICE GENESIS the Coordinator of SENS4ICE, Carsten Schwarz (DLR), was invited to present a project overview. The one-day event took place on the 3rd of November 2022 and was hosted by the RTA Climatic Wind Tunnel in Vienna and included a technical tour. The event was well attended by more than 50 participants. ICE GENESIS presented results for liquid conditions icing wind tunnel testing, snow characterisation and numerical tools. The event was rounded off by an overview presentation of the Clean Sky 2 EU project IMPACT and a presentation of Boeing's perspective of SLD certification.
The SENS4ICE presentation was of particular interest with several questions regarding the different icing detection technologies and the hardware testing activities including icing wind tunnels and planned flight tests. It became apparent that the different EU-funded projects benefit mutually from the experience gained and know-how built as part of the projects, as some organisations are partners of each consortium and even same reference instrumentation is used in some cases. A networking event sparked discussion about future research activities and needs.
